Developed by Ross Emmett over the last four decades, the Emmett technique is an established form of non-invasive body-therapy currently practiced in over 40 Countries, and has been taught for horses in the UK since 2011.
It works by applying light pressure at specific ‘Emmett Points’ on the body in order to release muscle tension, alleviate discomfort and improve restricted movement, without the need for strong or uncomfortable manipulations.
Each treatment is tailored to what the horse requires at the time of treatment based on the therapists assessment and the animals response to the stimulation. The technique works by gently stimulating the body to encourage the nervous system in order to alter the physical state of the muscles in the area of focus. Due to its gentle nature the technique is often tolerated by even the most nervous or physically uncomfortable individuals.
Results are often instantaneous, with animals offering clear ‘release’ responses and being visibly more relaxed. Owner feedback often includes reports of positive behavioural changes and improved ‘way of going’.
